Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan



Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) is a major program for the timely application of the Flagship of Elementary Education (UEE) of the Government of India, as compulsory by the 86th Amendment to the Constitution of India so that 6-14 children are free and Compulsory education can be given. SSA is being implemented in partnership with state governments to cover the entire country and meet the needs of 192 million children in 1.1 million habitations.
The program tries to open new schools in those slums, which do not have school education facilities and strengthen the existing school infrastructure through the provision of additional class rooms, toilets, drinking water, maintenance grant and school improvement grants. Existing teachers with inadequate faculty strength are provided with additional teachers, while granting the capacity of existing teachers to develop comprehensive training, teaching-learning materials and to strengthen the academic support structure at a cluster, block and district level.
